bitters' reaction was a big thing because he acted like he didn't care like nothing bothered him like everything was uncool and he was the one who actually lost his cool knowing his asshole captain was dead. thats a guy losing all hope thats a guy blaming himself for it thats a guy who is so mad that he couldn't do a goddamn thing to save grif
palomo looks lost. he looks like he’s crying beneath his helmet and trying to hide it, no-one comforts him because he’s supposed to be a soldier he’s supposed to be used to all of this death surrounding their army but he didn’t want to lose the people who brought him so much hope.
jensen completely broke down she looked shocked for a moment and immediately turned for support, thankfully smith offered it hesitantly but soon brought her into a tight hug. she’s lost without her heroes, and she doesn’t think she is strong enough to handle the war without them.
smith was strong. smith was brave. smith would have done anything for caboose and was even blinded by the whole hero facade that he failed to see that caboose was a bit of a moron. but the hesitation before hugging jensen. he wouldn’t hesitate usually. he follows every order and does whatever he can. but he hesitated. he feels like a failure knowing he couldn’t save caboose so he’d have to settle for saving jensen from herself.
